My kitty Kaylee is still running, jumping, playing, snuggling. Her ear stinks again though - the infection in there (that may or may not be related to the tumor in there) is back again. :(
I just bought a most excellent new pair of Chucks. Pictures will most certainly be necessary once they're in my hot little hands (or more appropriately, on my hot little feet.)
Jim Butcher is awesome, and I wish I could write like him. (The latest Dresden Files book did not disappoint! Now I'm onward and forward into the latest Codex Alera book... Butcher has to stop writing so I can read some OTHER authors once in a while... psst, Jim, since I know you read this, ignore that! Keep writing!)
Speaking of Writers I Love, Neil Gaiman continues to be awesome. Even when his dog bonks him in the face with an 80 lb. pole. Poor guy! I hope he recovers his natural coloring quickly. ("Not a werepanda"! *snerk*)
Ummm... I think that's it of any kind of interest at all. OH! It was also in the 70's today. WINDY, of course, but actually WARM. It was lovely.
I don't like the new Vox interface. I miss the drop-down menus. And I can't figure out a way to get back to the "home" page once I've navigated to my neighborhood. Hmm... I haven't tried "Explore Vox" ... maybe that's where it is?
Anyway. I'm back to work after being sick and after the long weekend. I feel GREAT compared to how I felt last week. I can actually breathe! You just really never realize how nice it is to BREATHE until you can't anymore. I'm pleased to note there isn't all that much for me to catch up on here, too. Quite lovely!
The snow on the way to work was terrible, and it was the first real test of my Jeep's abilities. I threw it into 4-wheel drive to get up the steep (and unplowed) hill out of my neighborhood... and ZOOM, my grand Dalek-Jeep blew through it with no problems whatsoever. Had I been in my light and useless GTI, I would have been spinning and going nowhere. I love my Dalek.
The long birthday weekend was grand as well. Although much of it was spent laying around on the couch recovering from my cold, I also caught up with a lot of TV. Almost all caught up with the BBC's Robin Hood. Despite it's absolute silliness, I'm really liking it a lot. And, some lovely person made Australia's tv show "Librarians" available too. It's hilarious, but I think it's really only funny to people who have worked in libraries or at least spent a lot of time in libraries. It reminds me a lot of The Office... it's that kind of pathetic, uncomfortable-type humor.
I meant to practice Rock Band over the long weekend too, but I never quite felt up to it. Maybe some evenings this week I can finally make up a character and see what I can do. I've also been playing around with my new Tardis playset. Right now, the Doctor is sneaking a hand towards Rose's ass while she's distracted pushing buttons on the Tardis console. The Ood sees what he's up to but won't tell, and Mickey is pouting over in a corner, slouched over and petting K9 and commisserating what it's like to be "the Tin Dog". I think I'll have to bring the Ninth Doctor home from my desk at work so he can stand in the Tardis doorway and look all surprised. Hee! Yes, I'm a child.
Okay, back to work. Just because there's not much to catch up on doesn't mean I don't have stuff to do!!
My kitty is currently curled up sweetly in my reading chair, and I am loathe to disturb her. So I took a picture of her for you all to enjoy instead.
After which, she woke up and blinked at me a few times blearily before smacking her little kitty lips together and setting her nose back down under her tail once more. Ah, such sweet peace.
Somewhere before Thanksgiving I subscribed to one of Taste Of Home's many periodicals. I believe it was "Cooking For 2". Since then, I have not only received the aforementioned title, but also Taste of Home's Quick Cooking, an their main title, Taste Of Home. In addition to these, I've received several bills asking me to pay for each subscription. I'm annoyed because 1) obviously, I only asked to be subscribed to ONE of these titles, so no, I will not pay for subscriptions to these others and 2) I am not so dumb as to forget what I've subscribed to, and mindlessly shell out money for subscriptions to magazines that I didn't sign up for.
Despite my resistance to paying for these extra titles, I'm still receiving them. I'll happily peruse them and pretend I'm enough of an organized cook that I might actually use some of the recipies within them someday. But I'm still not going to pay for them.
On the reading side, I am currently finishing up this book:
I loved the first one of this series, Odd Thomas. The subsequent books have been all right, but not up to par with the first one, I don't think. Although I think this one is better than the second one (Forever Odd.)
And next, I'll be reading Extras by Scott Westerfeld. I've heard mixed reviews about it - that it doesn't live up to the first three of the series... but then, my husband finished reading it recently, and he said he enjoyed it. So I'll go into it with an open mind.
And since both of these books are relatively quick reads, I'm going to start on these after I'm finished with them:
